Qualifications necessary before taking on a licensed retail business.

Under the Licensing Act 2003, anyone authorising the retail sale of alcohol will have to hold a personal licence. In order to qualify for a personal licence, an applicant must hold a licensing qualification. BIIAB’s new qualification, the BIIAB Level 2 National Certificate for Personal Licence Holders, is both QCA  accredited and Government approved, and has been specifically designed to meet the statutory requirements of the Licensing Act 2003.

As part of the conditions of the premises licence a Designated Premises Supervisor needs to be appointed.

At present the Licensing Act 2003 fails to provide a job description for the role of DPS, however it does provide a penalty of up to £20,000 and or six months imprisonment, should the DPS fail to perform their duties.

What is the CIEH (New) Level 2 Awards in Food Safety

This new qualification is required to address new National Occupational Standards reflecting sector-specific needs. In line with this demand, the CIEH Level 2 Awards in Food Safety have been designed to address the food safety needs of the catering, manufacturing and retail sectors (beer is classified as a food product).
